The Story of OMHU

    1992-2018

    Friends first

    Born in Denmark, OMHU is the culmination of a friendship spanning over 30 years. Jonas and Frederik share a deep passion for furniture and interior design, which ignited their dream of trading curated vintage pieces. A few years ago, they decided to take a leap of faith, leaving their 9 to 5 jobs behind to pursue this shared passion. What began with an old van and countless flea market adventures soon blossomed into ‘Kram & Klenodier’, their Instagram-based vintage shop founded in 2018.

    Enter TEDDY

    In the spring of 2022, the concept for the TEDDY sofa was conceived, drawing inspiration from their diverse experiences with vintage furniture traded through ‘Kram & Klenodier’. A symbol of the unique vision and dedication that OMHU represents, TEDDY became a central piece in their journey. It was during this creative process that the brand OMHU was born, not just to encompass TEDDY but to pave the way for future designs. Today, OMHU proudly stands as a testament to our vision and dedication to creating unique, high-quality furniture pieces.

This commitment is also seen in our production methods, where we prioritize eco-friendly materials and processes. From the sourcing of raw materials to the final product, we aim to minimize our environmental footprint. Our dedication to sustainability further extends to transportation, where we strive to reduce emissions and energy consumption. This holistic approach ensures that our furniture not only looks good but also contributes positively to the world around us.

      Design

      Our design starts with how a sofa is actually used – sitting, resting, reading, sleeping, sharing. We developed a palette of 21 colours that feels almost endless, but still controlled: a spectrum that can move from quiet neutrals to deeper tones without taking over a room. With TEDDY, we went back to the basics of a sofa bed: it must work as a sofa, and it must work as a bed, without compromise on either.

      Edges are softened, transitions are simple, and the proportions are set for everyday use. Cushions, seat height and depth are tuned for long sitting as much as short pauses, and the mechanism is built to be used often. For us, this is what caring design means: a piece that has been thought through in detail, so you don’t have to think about it in daily life.

      Made To Order

      At OMHU, nothing is made before it is needed. When you place an order, that is the moment the life of your sofa begins — not before. Made to order is simply a way of working that lets us focus on the craft itself. It gives our makers the time they need, and it allows every part of your sofa to be handled with care: the cutting of the foam, the stitching of the cover, the shaping, the fitting, the final checks.

      Made to order is not a slogan. It is a pace — slower, more precise, and centred on quality rather than volume. It’s the way we ensure your sofa feels considered from the first cut to the moment it arrives in your home.

      Produced in Europe

      All of our products are made in Europe, in workshops we know well and stay in close contact with. We choose to produce here because it allows us to follow the work directly and collaborate with craftsmen who have long experience with the materials we use. When something needs to be tested, adjusted or refined, it happens in real conversation with the people who are actually crafting your piece.
